Concessional
Financial Year | Concessional Contribution Cap |
2024-25 | $30,000 |
Concessional contributions, include pre-tax contributions to super, as well as Employer SG Contributions and salary sacrifice.
These contributions are:
- Not taxed at Marginal Tax Rates, but rather taxed at 15% when received by the super fund
Any contributions exceeding a client’s concessional contribution cap will not receive concessional taxation. The basic concessional contribution cap is indexed to average weekly ordinary time earnings (AWOTE) each financial year, but only increases in increments of $2,500 – meaning it may not necessarily increase each financial year.
Non-concessional
Total Superannuation Balance as at 30 June 2024 | Non-concessional Contributions Cap |
Less than $1.9 million | $120,000 |
$1.9 million or more | Nil |
Non-concessional contributions, also known as ‘after-tax’ contributions to super are generally contributions that are:
- Made with money you have already paid tax on (i.e. after tax money)
- contributions that are not claimed as a personal tax deduction
- not taxed by the super fund when received. This means they are not included in the fund’s assessable income.
The non-concessional contribution cap puts a cap on the amount that may be contributed to super, before additional tax consequences apply. The standard non-concessional contribution cap is set as four times the basic concessional contribution cap. A member may have a higher (or lower) non-concessional contribution cap where they are eligible for or previously triggered bring-forward rules.
